Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Last night, we finally held Nathaniel's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. This evening has been in the works for many years. He started the Boy Scout journey when he was 12 and was ready to quit when he was around 15. But being the mean parents that we are....we made him continue as he had come to far to not finish. After all was said and done....we think he is quite happy to have reached this accomplishment.

Chris Colby - Master of Ceremony
Nathan really wanted Chris to be the master of ceremony and had wanted Chris to "Roast" him. Lets just say that like most things that my son does...its hardly ever conventional.

sorry for the blurry picture
Every time a scout advances a rank, mom is given a pin. It isn't until the scout earns his Eagle Rank, that the father is given a pin.

I was given the privilege of pinning on Nathaniel's Eagle Scout pin

Nathan chose Scout Master Bob Tucker as the person who he would give his mentor pin to. I agree that Bob  (and Patty too) helped Nathan immensely with everything that scouting entailed and earning this rank. But along with Bob, were many other leaders, scouts and friends that all played a part in getting here tonight.

the cub scout bridge
In our cub scout den, the boys would cross this bridge and sign their name with each rank advancement. Nathan decided that he wanted it at his court of honor and to be able to graffiti it one last time.

A site that we may never see again

Nathan's Court of Honor was far from traditional, but it made for a fun evening. Many friends and family came out to show their support...and I was very grateful for that. Now it is up to Nathan to remember the skills that were learned and the memories that he gained as he starts his next phase in life.

Pictures of Nathan's Scouting Years

We are finally having Nathaniel's Eagle Scout Court Of Honor in the next couple of weeks. I have been putting together different ideas for the program. Lots of kids do slide shows. Nathan did not want one, so I put together a photo album that I will have out on the table for people to flip through. Feel free to check it out on snapfish.

He's an Eagle Scout

Tonight, Nathaniel had his board of review and earned his Eagle Scout Rank. Hooray!!! This was a long time coming. And the saying is true that behind every eagle scout is a mother. I fully believe this (some boys are naturally motivated)....and....others need a good kick in the rear to finish this. So let this be my little personal hoorah.

Nathaniel actually did his eagle project around this time last year (video game drive for Cooks Children's Hospital).....and then procrastinated on his paperwork. Upon finally getting it wrote up and submitted, his board of review was scheduled last month.

He went. I was super nervous. They called his Scout Master into another room....for along time. I was more nervous. It was then agreed upon that more work was to be done and the review was cancelled.

In the end, Nathaniel submitted a good report and handled the interview nicely. And the board told both of us they liked his creativity and how he handled the process. Now mom gets to help plan the court of honor.

(please don't look at how shaggy Nathan looks. Hair appt is tomorrow)
Happy mommy

Nathan (with his well known leather jacket) and Andrew (in full uniform)
Tonight, Andrew Colby, who has gone through scouting with Nathan also earned his Eagle Scout. His poor mom wondered if this day would come....as Andrew did his project one year before Nathan....and turns 18 this month.
